Live Generously

This is a generous church. We decided to do something different with Operation Christmas Child this year. The whole church donated supplies from July through November and then we had a packing party and put together over 60 boxes! That’s in addition to the boxes that generous individuals and families put together as well. The church is also funding a mission team of four people to go to Baltimore and spend three days preparing boxes for shipment overseas.

In December, we’ll collect a special offering for International Missions. These will be our “birthday gifts” for Jesus as we focus on the Reason for the Season.

Locally we are a significant part of the Canandaigua Churches in Action. We help fund a food pantry, host the Jordan Health Clinic at CCIA, secure free dental care through Supply a Smile, and provide a Resource Room that puts people in touch with a multitude of resources to help them.

All these things are made possible by the regular, faithful giving of God’s people through tithing and special giving. What a generous church. See you in church on Sunday!

Light in the Darkness

main image

“Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell.” Psalm 43:3

Remember when you were growing up and the power went out. You stumbled through a drawer looking for a flashlight or a matchbook - which was often misplaced. As you shuffled your feet to the next room (hoping to avoid obstacles), you were relieved to see a light piercing through the curtain which illuminated the whole room.  Instantly, it gave a sense of comfort and security.

Now imagine a night over 2,000 years ago. Shepherds were awoken suddenly by the glory of the Lord as an angel proclaimed the coming of the Messiah. This was not just a hillside which sat in the shadows, but a world separated from the presence of God. Yet, He sent His son in love so that we might reside in His presence. I pray this Christmas season that you reflect on the light which has pierced the darkness of our hearts that you might know the joy that is found only in Him!
